Dilli ka Dil Dekha…

Dilli ya Delhi as it’s popularly known… I have always had a fascination of being in the most amazing  places to be.. But honestly, I must tell you, from the stories I’ve heard of Delhi, I was kind of keeping this place last on my travel list… But, as luck would have it, I got an ‘opportunity’ or I’d say had to go to Delhi for some work! So the inevitable had happened… Finally Delhi was a place I was going to be in and hey, being a traveler that I am it was in my blood to make sure that I don’t let this opportunity pass by…

So having said that, I decided to take a short tour of this wonderful capital city of ours albeit a one and half day city tour… Earlier I had plans of taking a city Ho-Ho Bus tour.. But that had to be cancelled, thanks to a ‘friend of mine’ 😛 and of course lazying around in the comforts of the hotel room long enough to realize I had time to just cover some really amazing places few but really great places…

So here’s a little highlight of our short tour, and yes, thanks to the Delhi Metro, it really turned out to be a great one 🙂

One of the most amazing things we did was certainly take the Metro. I really fell in love with it. I’m just hoping that it comes to Mumbai soon enough… I mean yes, Mumbai has it’s own local trains but hey, nothing can beat the comfort and convenience of the Delhi Metro…

Delhi Metro

Yea, sure you aren’t really allowed to take a pic… But what are cell phone cameras for :P… A small snap won’t harm nobody… Going into the metro we could really travel to most of the places and it really was smooth too..

So having said that, our first stop in our short Delhi trip was none other than the infamous and one of the most amazing galiyaas of Chandni Chowk. @mehtarutvi my dear friend who had been here before took us to this fantastic ‘ParatheWaali Galli’ in Chandni Chowk… Yes guys, it was time to have the amazing Paratha and Super amazing Lassi in Chandni Chowk!!! After you get off at Chandni Chowk Metro, just ask anyone how to get there and you’ll be just fine…..

As small as this place is, it is usually crammed up and there are a lot of people always waiting in line to hog those really sumptous treats… this place is quite a handful. With photos of a lot of celebrities who have visited this place it boasts of an amazing menu of parathas that you would have never even imagined in your lifetime.. well at least not if you have been to Punjab of course..

After downing a couple of Parathas and a really huge glassfull of Lassi, we decided to walk it up to the ‘Red Fort’, well actually it’s not that far from where we were at.. But it was very much needed, especially after the truly sumptuous meal that we had… quite a meal I must say 🙂 Miffed up in the busy streets of Chandni Chowk, the walk to the Red Fort really gives you quite a perspective of Old Delhi… the lanes the shops, the really busy people and some of them laid back eating some paan or smoking a few bidis here and there… This is the Old Delhi that you could reall ask for!

Next stop was our very own beautiful Minaret… The amazing Qutub Minar… I must say, it’s quite a spectacle in itself… Once we bought the ‘Incredible India’ tickets to Qutub Minar, I noticed that it was one of India’s Heritage Sites… I also noticed that out of the 16-17 sites listed on the ticket, I’ve visited at least 11 of them… Wow, quite a pleasant surprise 🙂

Once you get inside, there’s a lot of peace and serenity that you can really sink into… Besides watching the marvel, there are a lot of other places that you can marvel upon, especially the ruins that offer you rustic views and truly magnanimous sights for your viwing pleasure.

This one's playing around inside... :)

Our next stop was but of course… India Gate!!! Since the sun was about to set and by the time we reach India Gate, it would be dark, we were really sure that the spectacle of watching India Gate at Night would really be a ‘spectacle’ But when we got there, what I felt was certainly something I could not describe with words out here…

I mean truly whatever you think, this is certainly a place that you got no words to describe… ‘Respect’ being the only thing I can think of at this moment, it truly feels being at this location, the pinnacle of glory for every Indian and also, felt really proud to see this glorious monument. Imagine what the guards who stand tall protecting this monument must feel?? That certainly was the best way to finish our tour of Delhi…
